Situation Overview
The Philippines has now experienced 21 named storms this year, leaving communities reeling from widespread flooding that has impacted millions and displaced hundreds of thousands.
Then just days after Typhoon Kalmaegi, Super Typhoon Fung-wong, one the year’s most powerful storms to hit the archipelago, made landfall in northern Luzon, ahead of which one million people were pre-emptively evacuated from their homes. Collectively, over two million people have now been impacted and hundreds of thousands are displaced from their homes amidst relentless back to back natural disasters.
Airlink’s Disaster Response
Airlink is actively coordinating with its airline and NGO partners, as well as UN agencies (UNHRD) and the AHA Centre, the disaster management branch of ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) to assess current needs as the situation evolves, as well as the status of airport closures, and other logistical factors.
