Airlink’s Disaster Response

Airlink is working with airline and logistics partners to rapidly mobilize humanitarian partners to mitigate the Ebola epidemic and strengthen health systems by transporting:

  • Personal protective equipment (N95 masks, gowns, gloves, boots) to protect doctors and other healthcare workers
  • Safe and Dignified Burial Kits to help with containment
  • Urgently-needed medical supplies to treat patients

Airlink’s logistics support to move aid over long distances and to remote locations with limited healthcare infrastructure is critical. Airlink is leveraging pre-established routes to quickly move emergency supplies into affected regions of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda. Airlink previously supported humanitarian partners respond to the West Africa Ebola outbreak in 2014, and currently has a proven delivery model in Eastern DRC because of the organization’s ongoing response to the conflict and mass displacement in the region.

This response is made possible with the generous support of the U.S. Government.

Situation Overview

In Spring of 2026, a rare Bundibugyo strain of Ebola spread through the DRC and Uganda, triggering the World Health Organization to declare an international health emergency over the epidemic, prompting global health response to help contain the outbreak and support the healthcare systems. The number of suspected cases rapidly grew into the hundreds, and is expected to reach the thousands by summer. While some of the DRC’s borders are closed, humanitarian aid pathways remain open, and Airlink is working with partners to quickly move much-needed medical supplies and aid into Ituri and North Kivu provinces, both heavily populated regions that are at high risk for exposure.
