Situation Overview

On September 30, a devastating 6.9 magnitude earthquake struck the outskirts of Bogo City in Cebu province, Philippines.

Thousands across the province and beyond are reeling from the largest earthquake in over a decade: houses, schools, and businesses have collapsed, bridges and essential infrastructure severely damaged, and countless families brace themselves for expected aftershocks as responders search the debris for survivors.

The earthquake comes one week after the Philippines was already impacted by Tropical Storms Ragasa and Wipha with Ragasa being the most powerful storm of the year so far. As the ongoing Pacific Typhoon Season threatens already vulnerable communities, the need for humanitarian assistance is vital to the security of families around the country and region.

Airlink’s Disaster Response

Within the first 48 hours of the earthquake, Airlink had already transported 5 skilled responders to the region, and provided NGO partners over $10K in transportation and logistics support. Airlink is coordinating with airline, logistics, and nonprofits partners to provide the following critically needed support:

  • Search and Rescue Operations
  • Emergency Sheltering
  • WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene)
  • Food and Medical Assistance

Airlink’s first supported partner in this response is Operation Blessing, providing travel for their team of a doctor, a WASH manager, and two Logistics techs. Airlink is receiving additional requests for responders to carry our needs assessments, medical care, and support search and rescue efforts.

Alongside skilled personnel, shipments consisting of shelter and WASH supplies are urgently needed, similar to this recent Airlink shipment that delivered over 800 hygiene and dignity kits, as well as water filtration systems and weatherproof blankets to families impacted by Tropical Storms Wipha and Ragasa.
