Situation Overview

Following eleven years of civil war, Yemen is seeing one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises unfold among millions.

Since 2014, the long-term conflict in Yemen has resulted in an economic crisis, wide-scale displacement, and an unprecedented famine. Over 19.5 million people are currently in need of life-saving and life-sustaining humanitarian assistance, including:

  • Food and nutrition
  • Healthcare
  • Shelter
  • Clean water

Humanitarian organizations are struggling to keep their responses to scale amidst a lack in funding. Many Yemenis are unable to get the medical care and food they need, and families are witnessing the lack of support firsthand, all while facing new challenges everyday.

Since 2022, Airlink has been able to provide over $97K in transport services to the NGO community responding in Yemen thanks to the generosity of our donors and airline and logistics partners. Our joint efforts have reached over 1 million people with vital medical assistance.

Airlink’s Disaster Response

Air access is currently the largest barrier for NGOs attempting to deliver aid to Yemen. Aden (ADE) and Sana’a (SAH) airports are serviced by limited air carriers due to the long-term war insecurity in Yemen. Airlink continues to develop creative logistics solution for aid delivery to Yemen, including multi-modal transshipments and collaborations with agencies like the United Nations Humanitarian Air Service (UNHAS).

Family Emergency Kits Provide Clean Water for Displaced Individuals

Airlink’s shipment of Family Emergency Kits on behalf of GlobalMedic are improving the circumstances of Yemeni families living in IDP camps. The solar lights within the kits provide safer night-time conditions inside makeshift shelters without access to power. The water purification units give families the agency to provide clean drinking water to their loved ones and prevent detrimental health outcomes that arise from waterborne illnesses and diseases like cholera. Distributions were particularly timed during the rainy season when flooding is common and there are increased instances of waterborne disease outbreaks.

Much-Needed Medications Arrive at Three Under-Serviced Healthcare Facilities

Partnering with MedGlobal, Airlink effectively transported much-needed medications, medical supplies, and consumables to targeted healthcare facilities in Aden and Hodeida. This enabled the facilities to enhance patient treatment and ensure better access to vital drugs, along with performing surgical procedures more safely.

“With Airlink’s crucial support, MedGlobal delivered essential medications and supplies, helping healthcare facilities in Aden and Hodeida provide critical care to vulnerable communities.” —Wagdi Alhajj, Program Coordinator, MedGlobal Yemen
