Queensland Flooding

More than two weeks of monsoonal floods – the worst in a century – have caused widespread building damage and loss of livestock in rural areas of Queensland, Australia. Nearly 3,000 homes have been declared damaged or destroyed, and damages are estimated at more than AUD$175 million. Given the rural nature of the areas affected, and the fact that these communities rely on farming as their main source of income, it is expected that many will not be able to afford the repairs to their homes.

Team Rubicon Australia has been responding in the wake of the floods with muck-and-gut capabilities, working to clear mud and prepare homes for repair. Given the scale of the emergency in northern Queensland, specially-trained members of Team Rubicon Canada to assist deployed to assist with spontaneous volunteer management and TRA strike teams to clear out flood damaged homes.
