Situation Overview

A powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar on the afternoon of Friday, March 28, 2025 (local time) near the city of Mandalay, the second-largest city in the Southeast Asian country. Following a declared state of emergency, the Myanmar government issued a rare call for international assistance.

The quake was also felt in neighboring Thailand, along with tremors throughout the region. The death toll has been estimated by authorities to reach over 10,000.

The impact to communications, transportation, water and electricity is ongoing. Myanmar is already vulnerable from conflict, with a ceasefire activated to make way for humanitarianism.

Airlink’s Role: Delivering Aid & Sending Teams

Myanmar Earthquake Responders

Airlink staff are working around the clock across time zones and regions to engage 30 partners and get boots on the ground quickly. Airlink’s focus and core work right now is in:

  • Coordinating transport of first responders and teams
  • Chartering aircraft for cargo
  • Identifying safe routes amidst damaged airports
  • Navigating challenges with partners in distributing materials
  • Assisting with getting teams in safe places in the region

When they’re on the ground, Airlink’s partner NGOs will be delivering life-saving assistance:

  • Rescue & Recovery teams to support the search for thousands missing
  • Temporary shelter materials for the tens of thousands displaced and homeless
  • Pre-packaged and dry foods that don’t require electricity to serve; along with coordinating cooks and food handlers
  • Hygiene kits and medical supplies, especially to those who cannot access hospitals
  • Water treatment systems to serve those who have lost access to clean water
Myanmar Earthquake Structure Damage

Your donation ensures we reach the millions who need support. Airlink’s nonprofit partners require rapid coordinated assistance; together, we can ensure complicated logistics hurdles and high airfare costs will not hinder their ability to respond.

It is estimated that 18.3 million people have been exposed to the impacts of this widespread earthquake. Immediate needs are critical, including search and rescue, food, shelter and protection, healthcare, and WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene). Multiple barriers to humanitarian aid access worsen regarding food insecurity, displacement, and safety.

Every contribution makes a difference—consider donating today to deliver the right aid to the right place at the right time.
