Situation Overview

As food and water shortages, lack of medical supplies, and damaged infrastructure plagued Caribbean communities hard hit by hurricanes Irma and Maria, Airlink, LIFTPatient Airlift Services (PALS) and Rescue Global teamed up to deliver large amounts of humanitarian aid to those in need.

The Operation Airlift Caribbean partnership worked with commercial air carriers, general aviation assets and dozens of aid organizations to deliver food, medical supplies, emergency shelter and equipment providing access to clean water, sanitation, electricity and telecommunications. The two-stage “air bridge” first transported emergency supplies between the US and staging areas, including San Juan, PR. From there, smaller aircraft and boats carried the supplies to several islands.

More than 130 relief workers and 122,000 pounds of emergency supplies have been moved to Caribbean communities through Airlink, which continues to support the transportation needs of its partners still working on recovery efforts (as of March 2019).

Airlink also assisted organizations responding to Florida communities impacted by Hurricane Irma.
