Situation Overview

As the fourth major storm of the 2025 North Indian Ocean cyclone season, Ditwah engulfed entire communities underwater throughout Sri Lanka, while also causing destruction in Southern Indian.

Cyclone Ditwah made landfall in Sri Lanka on November 28, unleashing four days of torrential rain that resulted in extensive flooding and over 200 landslides. This catastrophic cyclone, one of the country’s deadliest and most challenging natural disasters in years, impacted 1.5 million people across all 25 districts of the country and destroyed or damaged over 40,000 homes—hundreds are missing and hundreds of lives have been lost. In some districts, more than 300mm of rain fell in 24 hours, rapidly displacing hundreds of thousands.

Airlink’s Disaster Response

Airlink is actively coordinating with its airline, logistics, and humanitarian partners, assessing routes and resources available to alleviate the damage and suffering. With so many homes destroyed by high floodwaters, Airlink expects to deploy upcoming shipments of emergency shelters, clean water, hygiene supplies, and food based on these immediate needs:

  • Shelter
  • Food
  • WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene)
  • Medical Assistance
