Media Advisory: Airlink Responds to the Growing Ebola Epidemic with Urgently Needed Logistics Solutions
Press Release
May 28, 2026

Washington, DC, USA – May 28, 2026

Airlink, a nonprofit organization that connects the aviation and humanitarian sectors to send aid in emergencies, is supporting disaster-response organizations mobilizing to mitigate the Ebola epidemic in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda. The response is in part made possible by support from the U.S. Government.

Airlink is currently responding to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the Eastern DRC, providing free or heavily discounted airlift and logistical solutions to nonprofit partners sending aid into the region, bringing relief to communities and displaced families. It is estimated that around 30 million people are facing hunger and health-related crises amid the escalating conflict – with demands and pressures on the humanitarian sector growing as funding for emergency response has declined and nonprofits have closed local offices.

In 2014, Airlink responded to the Ebola outbreak in West Africa; it remains one of the organization’s largest responses in its 15-plus-year history. In partnership with 23 nonprofit organizations, Airlink sent 68 infectious disease doctors and specialists and delivered over 1M pounds of aid, from protective equipment and infection control supplies to airport handling equipment. The collective international response suppressed the outbreak, in part thanks to the air bridge that Airlink coordinated.

Today, the cost to move the immense number of supplies, from safe and dignified burial kits to protective equipment and medical supplies, is nearly double what it cost over a decade ago. Limited airfreight and no seaport options leave nonprofits with few avenues to get critical aid to the doctors and clinics treating patients. Already, Airlink has stepped up to help nonprofits surmount transportation obstacles and send aid by utilizing the borders open to humanitarian goods and services. Currently, Airlink is working with seven nonprofit partners to reach remote communities – and is positioned to help many more.

“Finding solutions to seemingly impossible humanitarian logistical challenges is what Airlink excels at: we will get the relief to where it is needed,” said President & CEO Paloma Adams-Allen. “We have a dedicated, expert team who is deeply entrenched in the work we do in Sub-Saharan Africa, and acutely aware of the cultural, political, and unique circumstances our partners are facing in this epidemic. We are managing the many variables at play in this recent outbreak and identifying pathways to get the much-needed supplies and help there, now.”
