Our Response
A surge in population as a result of the Venezuelan refugee crisis coupled with already limited water supplies has caused a clean water crisis in Urrao, Colombia. Through Waves for Water’s Clean Water Corps, trained volunteers distributed and set-up water filtration for families and communities in an effort to provide clean drinking water and prevent illnesses. The team also trained community members on better water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) practices. Expected to remain functional for 10 years, the filters will  reduce the community’s vulnerability to shocks from both the intense flooding of the rainy season during El Nino and also periodic droughts in the region.
