URGENT: Haiti Earthquake Response

Response Underway: Communities across Haiti were rocked by a powerful earthquake on August 14, 2021. Airlink is assisting partner organizations responding to immediate needs including search and rescue, medical care, food, access to clean water, and emergency shelter. Airlink’s response is expected to continue through long-term recovery.

This 7.2-magnitude earthquake, which was followed by a series of aftershocks, struck 5 miles from the town of Petit Trou de Nippes, not far from the capital of Port-au-Prince. While the full extent of the damage is still being assessed, many buildings have been leveled with reports of nearly 2,200 dead with more than 300 missing and over 12,000 reported injured.

Recovery efforts are being hampered by heavy rains, which have caused mudslides that have blocked roads in the region. This disaster comes at a time in which Haiti is not only facing a political crisis but ongoing efforts to control the spread of COVID-19.
