Kerala Flood Relief

August 2018 floods had a tremendous impact in the Indian state of Kerala. More than 800,000 people were displaced by the destructive flood waters and 483 people died.

Airlink partnered with humanitarian organization CADENA to deliver and install lifesaving water purification systems in communities affected. Following a flood event, the likelihood of waterborne diseases are greatly increased. Water purifying systems filter out 99.9% of all bacteria, effectively saving lives by preventing cholera, giardia, E.coli, and other common diseases caused by a compromised water supply.  The four-person volunteer team installed 150 water filters and trained each community on their use and maintenance. The filters will clean 800 liters per day and will last up to five years. In all, the flood response helped 25,000 people gain access to clean water.

Airlink also helped MedShare move nearly 4,000 pounds of medical supplies to treat flooding survivors.
