On September 19, a 7.1 magnitude earthquake rocked Mexico City. More than 270 people were killed, 1,900 inured, and thousands left homeless. This was the second earthquake in Mexico in as many weeks. The first occurred off the southern coast of Mexico, near the Guatemalan border, on September 7. The magnitude 8.1 quake was the largest to hit Mexico in a century. At least 61 people were killed and hundreds injured. Homes, hospitals, and schools were reportedly damaged and 1.85 million homes lost electricity.
Mexico has not made a broad request for international assistance. At this time, Airlink is assisting aid organizations who have a letter of request from the Mexican Government.
