Hurricane Harvey, the largest storm to make landfall in Texas since 1961, has left widespread damage across 50 of the state’s counties. Continued heavy rains are causing catastrophic flooding and are expected to continue through midweek. Millions of people in the region are affected.

As part of its mission to mobilize the aviation community in times of disaster, Airlink is working with Alaska Airlines, American Airlines and United Airlines to move relief workers and volunteers free-of-charge into the heaviest impacted areas. Airlink partner organizations Empact Northwest, Heart to Heart International, and All Hands are among the charities supported by the effort.

United Airlines also has started a crowd funding campaign inviting their customers to join relief efforts by donating to Airlink and other responding charities. United Airlines MileagePlus members also can donate miles to Airlink.

“Having the support of our airline partners is enabling us to take quick action and bring relief to those impacted by Hurricane Harvey,” said Steve Smith, Airlink Executive Director.  “With specializations in search and rescue, providing medical assistance and conducting volunteer coordination, Airlink’s charity partners are addressing the most critical needs of the affected communities.”

As the effects of the storm and resulting flooding become clearer, Airlink anticipates a significant increase in requests for its help. To address that need, it is encouraging people to take part in the response by making cash donations at www.airlinkflight.org. The organization says doing so will ensure the right aid is delivered to the right people quickly.
